The first word of the Iliad is "ΜΕΝΙΝ," which does not have a single direct translation to English. It is often translated as "anger," "wrath," "fury," and the like. It means super-human, excruciating, black-blooded anger. That's what defined Achilles, and that's what the Iliad is about. The Achilles in "War Music" is not angry. He's at times self-righteous, then sad. Then petulent. Then sad. Then determined. No anger, let alone "MENIN" in this Achilles.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;This is a well-acted, funny, well-presented horrible story.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3687126331165144121/2291221846541949910/comments/default/2616318531774070665'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3687126331165144121/2291221846541949910/comments/default/2616318531774070665'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://blog.act-sf.org/2009/03/slags-hogs-and-homer-this-word-i-do-not.html?showComment=1238384040000#c2616318531774070665' title=''/><author><name>Mark Travis</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/06890301060833363652</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://blog.act-sf.org/2009/03/slags-hogs-and-homer-this-word-i-do-not.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3687126331165144121.post-2291221846541949910' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3687126331165144121/posts/default/2291221846541949910' type='text/html'/></entry></feed>
